The
newsletter of the Cambridge Fire Department
A "Hose
line" is a fire service term for any fire hose used for
fire attack. Fire hoses come in various sizes and the larger
the fire the more "Hose lines" you will encounter
in the street. Larger fires with many hose lines are dynamic,
exciting places to be. There is a lot going on there.
We hope that you find a lot going on here as far as fire department
information is concerned.
The
banner name that we use for our newsletter was coined in the
1970's by Dave Dugan, a firefighter with the CFD. There was
a great amount of comings and goings of local characters at
the old fire department headquarters and this was a form of
entertainment for the fire fighters. Eventually a log was kept
of these meanderings and visits and everyone could keep abreast
of the current adventures. The log was finally stopped when
it turned slightly malicious.
"Feel
the Heat Program"
We
would like to take the opportunity to thank Mayor Sam Salupo
and Service / Safety Director John Jones for participating in
the Ohio Fire Academies "Feel the Heat" program. This
program exposes local governmental officials, the media and
other interested citizens to the hazards and hardships faced
by firefighters as they do some of their normal emergency routines.
This program allows the participants to actually go through
some of the training exercises that firefighter recruits have
to pass in able to become certified firefighters with the State
of Ohio. Each group is pared with a sponsor from their fire
department and is led by instructors from the Ohio Fire Academy.
Some of the activities include fire fighting, auto extrication,
smoke mask drills, victim rescue, and foam firefighting.
We
would like to say that both Mayor Salupo and Service/Safety
Director Jones impressed the jaded, cynical Assistant Fire Chief
assigned to escort them through the program. Both gentlemen
completed all phases of the course and were great participants!

Mayor
Sam Salupo and Service/Safety Director John Jones
