The
newsletter of the Cambridge Fire Department
A "Hose
line" is a fire service term for any fire hose used for
fire attack. Fire hoses come in various sizes and the larger
the fire the more "Hose lines" you will encounter
in the street. Larger fires with many hose lines are dynamic,
exciting places to be. There is a lot going on there.
We hope that you find a lot going on here as far as fire department
information is concerned.
The
banner name that we use for our newsletter was coined in the
1970's by Dave Dugan, a firefighter with the CFD. There was
a great amount of comings and goings of local characters at
the old fire department headquarters and this was a form of
entertainment for the fire fighters. Eventually a log was kept
of these meanderings and visits and everyone could keep abreast
of the current adventures. The log was finally stopped when
it turned slightly malicious.
"New
Rescue truck delivered!"
The
Fire Department took delivery on March 22nd of its new Pierce
/ Kenworth rescue truck. This vehicle is the culmination of
several years worth of work by fire department personnel. The
Cambridge Fire Department has never owned a new rescue vehicle,
relying instead on older fire apparatus converted to rescue
service or as we have recently been used to -- a used rescue
truck that was purchased several years ago as a "temporary"
vehicle.
The
new rescue vehicle was built by the Pierce Manufacturing Company
of Appleton, Wisconsin. The vehicle is built around a Kenworth
T300 cab and chassis. This vehicle is custom built as a large
rolling tool box to be used on all emergencies where rescue
operations are needed. The truck will be placed in service as
soon as Fire Department personnel can be trained in its operation.
We would like to thank the Citizens of Cambridge and Cambridge
Township for passing the fire levies that allow us to purchase
and use such equipment. We would also like to thank everyone
in the City Administration that helped us along the way with
our project. Many
Thanks!!!
