The
newsletter of the Cambridge Fire Department
A "Hose
line" is a fire service term for any fire hose used for
fire attack. Fire hoses come in various sizes and the larger
the fire the more "Hose lines" you will encounter
in the street. Larger fires with many hose lines are dynamic,
exciting places to be. There is a lot going on there.
We hope that you find a lot going on here as far as fire department
information is concerned.
The
banner name that we use for our newsletter was coined in the
1970's by Dave Dugan, a firefighter with the CFD. There was
a great amount of comings and goings of local characters at
the old fire department headquarters and this was a form of
entertainment for the fire fighters. Eventually a log was kept
of these meanderings and visits and everyone could keep abreast
of the current adventures. The log was finally stopped when
it turned slightly malicious.
"Monday
at the Station"
Well,
its Monday at the fire station and time for Monday chores, we
just don't sit around as some would believe!
The
trucks are pulled onto the apron and complete inventories are
done. All equipment both large and small is checked and the vehicles
are operated to ensure that all works well when the alarm sounds.
Engineer
Bob Feyko of Crew #3 checks the operation of Tower ladder #4,
just part of the checks we perform!
While
the Engineers are busy with the apparatus checks the other guys
are in the station doing the house duty chores. Yes Virginia,
that means hose cleaning. This is our extended home so we have
to keep it clean.
So
while part of the crew checks apparatus some others will be doing
the house cleaning. Here's a couple of the guys working away.
OK wives and girlfriends this is the only chance you may have
to see your fellas doing things they don't do at home!

Well,
looks like Scotty and Steve are hard at work.......
Dishwasher? We got two of them.
