1915 Indiana hose and chemical engine

In October 1915, the Cambridge Fire Department received its first piece of motorized fire equipment. The combination hose wagon and chemical engine was built on a Indiana Truck Company cab and chassis. We think that the fire body was manufactured by the Sutphen Corporation of Columbus, Ohio. The truck carried two 40-gallon chemical tanks, a 40-foot extension ladder and 600-feet of hose. This apparatus proved to be only a moderate success as it was under powered and would throw its drive chains leaving it without brakes. On October 25th of the same year it was involved in a collision with a city street car while responding to an alarm and Fire Chief C.C. Long was injured. The truck saw service for several years and its fate is unknown.
