Seagrave 65 foot aerial ladder
This
photo shows the departments 1951 Seagrave aerial ladder truck
that was in service until 1988. The Seagrave aerial was purchased
along with a Mack pumper in 1951 as part of a $50,000 dollar fire
levy. The cost of the Seagrave was $28,000 and it came equipped
with a booster pump and life saving equipment. The purchase of
the aerial ladder truck and a new Mack pumper resulted in the
replacement of the 1928 Seagrave pumper, a 1928 Prospect ladder
truck, a 1938 Ford pumper, and a 1945 Dodge pumper.
The
Seagrave remained in service until the late 1980's and was used
during a time of many major fires in the Cambridge area.
Over the years this has probably been the most used and abused
piece of fire apparatus in the fire departments inventory. After
one major fire several cracks were found in the turntable and
ladder sections and the vehicle was replaced.
