Dodge pumper at 1948 Centennial parade
The
above photo shows the 1942 dodge pumper assigned to the Cambridge
Defense Supply Depot which was located at the Hoffman - LaRoche
plant on the cities West side. At the end of World War Two this
apparatus was given to the Cambridge Fire Department. New information
has the Dodge as a Dodge - Pirsch Class 500 with a 500-gpm pump. This
apparatus saw many years of use with the fire department and it
was finally replaced for good in 1957. The vehicle was involved
in a traffic accident in 1957 which probably hastened its replacement.
The above photo shows the Dodge pulling a hose cart of the original
volunteer fire department. Riding on the apparatus are a couple
of older members of the volunteer department.
